AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A judicial conduct panel has issued a “public warning” for Texas’ top criminal judge but has decided that she will not be removed from the bench.
The State Commission of Judicial Conduct had been asked to consider punishment for Judge Sharon Keller after she said, “We close at 5” while attorneys for a death-row inmate tried filing a late appeal. The case sparked a firestorm of criticism.
The commission issued its decision Friday, giving Keller one of the least severe sanctions the commission can hand down.
