Stanford To Be Released from Hospital After Jail Fight

CONROE, Texas (AP) _ A U.S. Marshals Service spokesman says jailed Texas financier R. Allen Stanford may be released from an undisclosed hospital following his fight with another inmate.

Spokesman Alfredo Perez says Stanford’s injuries were superficial. The fight happened Thursday around 10 a.m. at the Joe Corley Detention Facility in Conroe about 40 miles north of Houston.

Stanford, 59, was taken to a hospital afterward. It was unclear why he remained there for what officials say are minor injuries.

Stanford’s court-appointed attorney Kent Schaffer said a doctor told him he wanted to conduct an MRI on Stanford but was concerned with the results because Stanford has a metal stint.

Stanford is charged with bilking investors of the now defunct Stanford Financial Group of more than $7 billion.
