St. Joseph Expanding Emergency & Trauma Services

St. Joseph Health System announced two initiatives Thursday morning to improve their emergency and trauma medical care.

They have teamed up with PHI Air Medical to create St. Joseph AirMedical. The region’s medical helicopter has a new look as a symbol of this affiliation. PHI owns and will continue to operate the helicopter, but within the year, St. Joseph AirMedical and its crews will be housed at the hospital.

Tony Pfitzer, president of St. Joseph’s, said the new relationship will create seamless coordination of care and benefit trauma patients tremendously.

This agreement helps St. Joseph’s get closer to their goal of becoming a Level 2 Trauma center. The hospital meets many of the Level 2 criteria and anticipates a final Level 2 designation early next year. It would be the only Level 2 Trauma center between Waco and Houston.
