DALLAS (AP) _ Two more South Texas counties have recounted Nov. 2 votes by hand as requested by U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz. But the results haven’t cut into the Corpus Christi Democrat’s opponent’s lead of about 800 votes.
Ortiz spokesman Jose Borjon said Wednesday that Willacy County re-tabulated ballots, with Ortiz picking up four votes and Republican Blake Farenthold gaining one.
A Kleberg County recount saw Ortiz and Farenthold pick up two votes each. A Nueces County recount hasn’t been completed, and Cameron County officials will begin their recount Thursday.
Cameron County is the last in the 27th Congressional District of Texas to recount. An earlier Kenedy County recount didn’t change the election results there.
Ortiz trails Farenthold by 799 votes in unofficial results.
