About ten percent of those working in the Bryan school district are eligible to be paid a bonus for quitting.
There’s been some interest in the beefed-up early resignation program recently approved by the Bryan school board.
It’s one of the ways the Bryan ISD trustees are trying to reduce spending. The total savings depends on how many quit and whether those positions are left vacant and/or filled with less expensive replacements.
And figure in the incentives. With the exception of bus drivers, employees who have worked continiously for BISD the last three years are eligible.
Those with 3 to 15 years experience get a one time payment of five percent of their annual base salary with a maximum of $5,000 dollars.
Those with 16 years or more in the district get ten percent or a maximum of $7,000.
The offer is limited to the first 150 who apply by April first. At last count, 46 have applied.
Some who gave the district notice prior to the incentive being approved will be allowed to participate.
Over 1,000 employees qualify for the bonus. Attendance at two voluntary employee meetings has been sparce, the last one only in the single digits.
