“Smoking Materials” Led To Weekend Townhome Fire In Bryan

Two units of a Bryan townhouse complex in the central part of town were damaged by fire Saturday morning.

Deputy Bryan fire marshal Gerald Burnett says discarded smoking materials on the patio started the fire at the Kent Street condos on Kent near Broadmoor.

While the fire took 30 minutes to get under control, getting it fully extinguished took longer because it had traveled up between the walls and attics of the two-two story units.

No injuries were reported to occupants or firefighters.

Burnett says 15 families were initially evacuated as a precaution. By the end of Saturday, all but two families were allowed to return home.
