A small fire in the Kleberg Center at A&M Tuesday morning has resulted in closing the building until Wednesday morning at 8.

University officials are investigating the cause of the fire and smoke which resulted in an evacuation and knocking out electrical service.

According to A&M’s website for emergencies, students should contact their instructors regarding classes which have been affected.

Faculty and staff questions may be directed to the building proctor.

Bart Humphreys of the College Station Fire Department says an alarm was received Tuesday morning at 6:43.

Upon arrival, smoke was seen from the loading dock.

The fire was found in an electrical panel located in a basement mechanical room.

Sprinklers had been activated with the alarm, then firefighters finished putting out the fire.

Humphreys says the fire was under control at 7:06 a.m. Another hour was taken to remove smoke from the multi-story building.

No one was injured.

The A&M website describes the Kleberg Animal and Food Sciences Center as a five-story building that houses faculty and staff in the Departments of Animal Science, Nutrition and Food Science and Poultry Science.
