6:35 p.m. update:
College Station Utilities (CSU) reports all customers should have power. If not, call 855-528-4278.
CSU reports at approximately 5 p.m., a potential transformer (voltage measuring device) on the 138 kV transmission system failed at the Greens Prairie substation, which is located on Old Arrington Road.
The loss of the Greens Prairie substation caused two more substations, the Southwood and Post Oak locations, to lose power.
At the peak of the outage, CSU had 21,000 customers without power.
Power began to be restored at 5:45 and all power was restored at 6:15.
The cause of this failure and the effect on any other equipment in this substation is still under investigation.
6:15 p.m. update:
College Station Utilities (CSU) reported three substations were affected by the power outage. At this time, customers tied to the Post Oak substation are still without power.
According the CSU power outage website (Click HERE to view), about 3,700 customers were still affected.
Also impacted were the Greens Prairie and Southwood substations.
The cause remains undetermined.
The College Station outage was unrelated to the BTU Atkins substation fire earlier in the day. The Atkins generator was down for maintenance.
