UPDATE: Severe Storms Hit Brazos Valley

Brazos County escaped the worst of Monday’s early morning severe storms, only to be surprised by funnels Monday afternoon.

As for the funnels, which were also sighted in Washington County, WTAW staff meteorologist Rob St. Pierre says it’s a random event.

Grimes County emergency management director Dave Lilly says no one was killed or injured as a minimum of ten to 12 were damaged or destroyed by tornadoes and/or straight line winds about 4:30 Monday morning.

Lilly says the Red Cross has damage assessment teams in affected areas, and he encouraged Grimes County residents with storm losses to contact 9-1-1 to set up an appointment with the Red Cross.

The National Weather Service also received damage reports from Burleson, Washington, Walker, and Montgomery counties.

Monday morning rainfall at Easterwood Airport measured 1.17 inches, raising April’s total to 4.79 inches, further exceeding the record for April in College Station which had been 2.21 inches.
