Several Hurt in Houston Fire Truck Collision

HOUSTON (AP) _ Officials say 10 people, including eight firefighters, were taken to Houston hospitals after a traffic accident in which two fire trucks responding to a call collided.

Houston District Fire Chief Tommy Dowdy says the two fire trucks were responding Monday to a report of an apartment fire when they collided at an intersection. One truck flipped onto a vehicle driving through the intersection.

Dowdy says one of the firefighters, who was thrown from the fire truck, and a person on a bicycle who was hit by one of the trucks suffered severe injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also injured.

Fire department officials later determined the reported apartment fire was a false alarm.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
