A Bryan man convicted of participating in a drug-related murder a year and a half ago knows his punishment.

22 year old Christopher Hernandez was sentenced to 37 years in prison and will be required to serve at least half the time before he becomes eligible for parole.

The Brazos County District Court jury, which deliberated three and a half hours, considered a range of five years to life.

Hernandez was also ordered to pay a $5,000 dollar fine.

Hernandez was one of three men arrested for the October 2011 shooting death of Billy Menard, Jr. at his Bryan apartment. Trial evidence included Hernandez firing a .22 caliber revolver outside Menard’s apartment door when Hernandez knew the victim was inside.

Co-defendant Travis Carroll is scheduled to go on trial in July. Clayton Thompson, who fired a shotgun that went through the door and hit Menard, entered a plea agreement last November and is serving a 45 year sentence.
