Don’t look for political action to force the continuation of the football series between Texas A&M University and the University of Texas.

State Senator Steve Ogden of Bryan says the legislature will be timid entering what he described as a political mine field.

Ogden doesn’t see a special session being called unless it’s an emergency because Governor Rick Perry seeks the Republican presidential nomination.

Ogden hopes the differences are resolved before the start of the next regular session. He expects economic factors will play a role in football between the Aggies and Longhorns.

The Senate Finance Committee chairman says the two schools have presented a united front for over a decade on higher education issues, adding A&M and UT are more alike than any school combination in Texas.

From a political standpoint, Ogden says ending the football rivalry, “to the extent that this causes some hard feelings in the Texas Legislature, I think both A&M and Texas are going to lose.”

Senator Steve Ogden visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
