Selena Killer Loses Appeal

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed the conviction of a fan serving life in prison for the 1995 killing of Tejano singing star Selena.

The appeals court in Austin on Wednesday denied a petition challenging the conviction of Yolanda Saldivar, who formerly led the entertainer’s fan club.

Selena was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, at a Corpus Christi motel. Prosecutors say Selena had confronted Saldivar about embezzlement allegations.

A jury in Houston, where the trial was moved due to extensive publicity about the case, convicted Saldivar of murder.

Saldivar in June 2009 lost an appeal before the court in Austin because it was filed in the wrong county.

Selena was immortalized in a movie starring Jennifer Lopez.
