Local Broadcasters Honored by the Texas Association of Broadcasters

Two local broadcasters were honored last night by The Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB). Bryan Broadcasting’s Vice President and General Manager Ben Downs was given the Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Downs is only the sixth recipient of the award in the 73 year history of the association. KBTX-TV anchor Rusty Surette received the Jason Hightower Award. The Hightower Award recognizes individuals in the broadcast industry who have demonstrated a proficiency for enterprise and innovation in servicing their stations’ audience and communities.

Man Arrested After Shoplifting Cooler and Beer From Walmart

A Caldwell man was arrested after shoplifting from the West Bryan Walmart. Bryan Police say they were called to the Walmart at 643 N. Harvey Mitchell Parkway on August 6, 2026. The Asset Protection team says the man exited the store through the auto care center without paying for the merchandise. 55-year-old Edward John Seydler told police that he placed the items in the trunk of the car and was going to pay for them when he was done getting an oil change. Items included: (2) scooters ($79.96) TS5 Lasertag ($29.97) RTIC 20-can soft cooler ($99.00) Scrubblade windshield wipers ($45.94) (1) Case of Natural Light Beer ($13.47) Toy Story toy ($9.97) unsalted butter ($4.46) sausage patties (4.97) cheddar link sausage ($3.46) The total of the items before tax was $291.20. Seydler was arrested for Theft of Property greater than $100, but less than $750 and booked into the Brazos County Jail. He is currently out on $4,000 bond.  

Bryan Man Arrested After Receiving Over 250 Grams of Methamphetamine Via Mail

A Bryan man is behind bars after receiving a package containing methamphetamine through the mail. The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) says they flagged a suspicious package on August 5, 2026. They obtained a warrant and found a fanny pack with a bundle wrapped tightly in black tape inside. Upon the discovery, the Inspection Service contacted the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Office arranged for the postal service to make the delivery to the address in the 600 block of West 16th in Bryan the following day. Reports say that approximately 45-minutes after the delivery, two vehicles arrived at the house. The driver of one of the vehicles, later identified as 59-year-old Michael Leon Moore, Jr., retrieved the package and left the scene. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Moore’s vehicle, but the package could not be located. Drones involved in the surveillance operation revealed that Moore had tossed the package from the cab of his truck into a nearby ditch. The official weight of the meth and its packaging was 271 grams. Moore was arrested and charged with Tampering With Evidence and Delivery of a Controlled Substance greater than 200 grams, but less than 400 grams. He remains jailed on $100,000 bond. This was Moore’s 15th time in the Brazos County Jail. The second vehicle involved was occupied by 49-year-old Lindy Cruse of Houston. A search of her vehicle uncovered 3.5 grams of methamphetamine. She was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance more than 1 gram, but less than 4 grams. She is being held on $15,000 bond.
