Second Blue Bell Lid Licking Incident Results In The Arrest Of A Man In Louisiana

For the second time in as many weeks, someone is accused of going into a grocery store, opening a container of Blue Bell ice cream, licking the lid, and putting it back in the freezer.

A Louisiana man who posted a Facebook video was arrested on charges of property tampering and posting criminal activity. The arrest was after the man showed a receipt that he purchased the tampered ice cream.

Blue Bell continues to get requests on social media to provide more protection in its packaging. Blue Bell’s most recent response on its Twitter account is “Food safety is our top priority. We will continue to explore all options including manufacturing processes and additional carton protection so that you can be confident in our product.”

Blue Bell’s current practice is to turn containers upside down, where ice cream is pressed against the lid to form a seal.

NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) — Another apparent incident of someone licking ice cream at a store has surfaced. This time it’s in Louisiana.

Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man posted a video of himself on Facebook opening a Blue Bell ice cream container, licking it, poking it with his finger and putting it back on the shelf.

News outlets report 36-year-old Lenise Martin III was charged Saturday with property tampering and posting criminal activity.

Police Commander Lonny Cavalier says after being alerted of Martin’s actions by management, deputies found Martin at the scene showing the sales clerk a receipt showing he bought the ice cream he licked. Deputies searched the freezer and confirmed the purchase but still decided to move forward with the charges.

Earlier this month, a teen in Texas was shown in an online video taking ice cream from a Walmart freezer, removing the top to lick it and then putting it back.
