SEC Field Athlete of the Week honors for Aggies Latario Collie and Maggie Malone

BIRMINGHAM – Two Aggie athletes were selected as SEC Field Athletes of the Week for the second time this outdoor season. Triple jumper Latario and javelin thrower Maggie Malone were honored by the conference office this week following victories each athlete had during the LSU Invitational.

Collie won with a wind-aided mark of 54-10 ¼ to lead an A&M 1-2-3 finish in the triple jump, with the Aggies scoring 24 points. The effort by Collie ranks second among collegians this season under all conditions and leads the SEC, where the second best effort from conference jumpers measures 53-0 ¾.The top collegiate mark this season is just half an inch better than Collie’s performance.

Malone produced a winning throw of 190-10 in defeating a pair of post-collegians as she led an A&M finish of 1-2-3-4-5 that generated 33 points for the Aggie team score. It’s the third time this season Malone has surpassed 190 feet to win a competition. Her 190-10 ranks as the third best performance on the A&M all-time list behind her school record of 198-0 and a 193-10 throw from earlier this season.

The next competition for Texas A&M will be the SEC Championships held May 12-14 at the University of Alabama.
