AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Democrat Tom Schieffer has picked up endorsements for his run for governor from Democratic leaders in the Texas House.
The endorsements announced Wednesday seem to indicate the Democratic legislators don’t expect other prominent candidates to enter the party’s 2010 primary. They said even if that happens, they’ll stick with the former ambassador who served under Republican President George W. Bush.
Democratic Reps. Jim Dunnam of Waco, Pete Gallego of Alpine and Garnet Coleman, Jessica Farrar and Senfronia Thompson of Houston said they admire Schieffer’s business and diplomatic experience and his past service in the Texas House. They said they are committed to putting their political networks to work for him.
On the Republican side, Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison are running.
