San Antonio Man Gets Life in Infants’ Deaths

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A 30-year-old San Antonio man pleaded guilty to injury to a child to avoid a capital murder trial in the deaths of two infants found wrapped in plastic under a house.

Jerry Salazar was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for injury to a child by omission. The bodies of his girlfriend’s 14-month-old and 4-month-old were discovered in March 2007.

The girlfriend and the children’s mother, Valerie Lopez, pleaded guilty to capital murder in August 2008. She admitted beating one child to death on Christmas Eve 2006. She said the other child died after she accidentally rolled onto him in her sleep.

Salazar has denied knowing about the deaths or helping hide the bodies.
