San Antonio Man Attacked, Set on Fire

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Police say a 22-year-old man was burned severely, especially to the lower half of his body, when he was doused in gasoline and set afire near downtown San Antonio.

Police say Richard Rodriguez was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in poor but stable condition after the 11:20 p.m. Saturday attack.

Police Lt. Matthew Podwika said an officer drove across a bridge and saw Rodriguez in flames in the street. The officer extinguished the flames, and Rodriguez was able to tell his name and that he’d been attacked by several men. Podwika said he could give no exact number, however.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Rodriguez remained hospitalized on Sunday, but a hospital spokesman didn’t return a message from The Associated Press.
