AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ State sales tax collections were down 7.8 percent in March, compared with the same month a year ago.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said Wednesday that the state collected $1.46 billion in sales tax revenue in March. Although that’s down, she said collections continue to moderate for the second month in a row.
Following an eight-month stretch of double-digit declines, the pace of revenue losses is slowing, Combs said.
Combs says sales tax revenue in major sectors such as oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, and retail industries registered lower than one year earlier.
She says to expect more declines in the coming months before a return to sales tax revenue growth later in 2010.
