Rural Firefighters Busy With Wildfires

Firefighters worked through the night Sunday in Leon County to contain a wildfire near Flynn.

At its peak, the fire reached an estimated 1000 acres, although the percentage of containment was not known Monday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says all Leon County roads were reopened about 12:30 a.m., Monday.

County emergency officials say some evacuations remained in place, although an exact number was not know. Officials were hoping to get a better assessment of the situation Monday morning after daybreak.

Another rural wildfire, this one in Brazos County, was sparked after a barn caught fire.

Emergency officials were preparing to evacuate an area near Macey Road and Old Bundick Road early Monday when firefighters brought the fire under control. No evacuations were ordered.

No injuries have been reported in either Brazos or Leon counties.
