College graduation will be followed by prison for a former Aggie football player involved in an aggravated robbery in College Station over four years ago.
22 year old Brandon Joiner, a two-year starter for Arkansas State following his dismissal from A&M, appeared Wednesday in Brazos County District Court.
An employee of Judge Steve Smith’s office says Joiner asked to delay sentencing so he could graduate.
As part of the agreement to reschedule the hearing to May 8th, Joiner will serve one additional year or a total of three years in prison.
This is related to one of two victims in a November 2007 armed robbery at the Callaway Villas apartment complex.
In December 2010, Joiner entered a plea agreement involving the other victim. Court records show Joiner was sentenced to 10 years prison but was given 10 years probation. Joiner did 20 days in jail, will serve another 40 days in May, he was ordered to do 350 hours of community service, and was fined $1,000 dollars.
Co-defendant Yemi Babalola of Bryan, who was convicted by a jury and sentenced to five years, was released on parole last month.
