COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior Danielle Rice was named an SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Friday.
The Keller, Texas native saw her first action of the season on Thursday, entering the match in the 69th minute to preserve a 1-1 tie against Missouri. Relieving an injured Mia Hummel, Rice made four saves in the final 42 minutes of scoreless action, including making a game-saving stop on a penalty kick by Missouri’s Candace Johnson in the second overtime to stave off defeat.
Rice’s honor marks the first SEC Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the Aggies in 2015. Haley Pounds and Janae Cousineau each earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week on one occasion and Kate Hajdu, Emily Bates andAlly Watt all earned SEC Freshman of the Week one time this season.
Rice shared the honor with South Carolina’s Carly Ray.
The Aggies wrapped up the regular-season with a 13-5-1 overall mark and a 6-4-1 record in SEC play. Texas A&M begins action at the SEC Tournament on Wednesday as they play Ole Miss in a quarterfinal match at 2:30 pm.
