A vacancy on the Blinn College board of trustees has been filled.

The senior member of the trustees, retired Brenham newspaper publisher Charles Moser, submitted his resignation August 29th effective September 18th.

The resignation became public when the college published the agenda of the board’s September 17th meeting.

Trustees made no public comments about the resignation or the process to fill the vacancy.

After the board at its September 17th meeting returned from an executive session, executive vice chancellor Leighton Schubert explained how to make the motion to fill the vacancy.

That was followed by the board’s unanimous vote to appoint recently retired Blinn administrator Richard O’Malley to fill Moser’s term, which ends in May of 2025.

O’Malley, who joins former Blinn vice president Dennis Crowson on the board.

Crowson made the motion, saying O’Malley “brings about a unique set of characteristics that will be beneficial to this board.”

O’Malley retired in January 2024 following a 16-year career. O’Malley last served as Blinn’s assistant vice chancellor of facilities, planning, and construction.
