Representative Raney Files Blinn College Legislation

Operations at Blinn College could change if state legislation passes.

Representative John Raney of Bryan says House Bill 1903 would distribute state funds, tuition, and fees based on the number of hours taken at each Blinn College campus.

Raney wants to balance what he considers an inquity…where Blinn makes $1,000 for each student in Bryan but loses almost $3,000 for each student in Brenham.

Blinn officials say they “look forward to working with” Raney…a member of the House higher education committee…”to ensure all campuses are self-funded”.

Bryan has 71 percent of this semester’s campus contact hours, compared to 15 percent in Brenham. Online students make up 12 percent, and the Sealy and Schulenburg campuses each have less than one percent.

Raney says Brazos County state senator Charles Schwertner will carry the bill in the upper chamber.
