HOUSTON (AP) _ Red-light cameras in Houston are being turned back on.
Mayor Annise Parker said Wednesday that tickets for red-light runners caught on camera will resume after “a short period” for equipment testing. At the same time, she says the city will attempt to appeal last month’s federal court ruling that invalidated the election last fall when voters said the cameras should be turned off.
Parker says some cameras may be moved to intersections that have a higher rate of accidents. She also says the decision was prompted by financial concerns. Breaking the contract between the city and the company that installed the devices would cost millions.
