Red light cameras are one step closer to coming before the voters of College Station.

According to City Secretary Connie Hooks the movement needed 846 signatures, which represents 25% of those who voted in the last municipal election.
Hooks and her staff announced Wednesday they verified 924 of the signatures on the petition, meaning the issue will come before the College Station City Council August 17.
The Council will have the option of approving the petition, which would outlaw red light cameras, or putting the issue up for a public vote.
That public vote would be likely to occur in November.
No city in the United States has ever voted to support red light cameras.
