The state of Louisiana is working to recover from historic flooding last week, and it is a long road ahead.
More than 30,000 people were rescued by emergency crews and more than 40,000 homes were damaged.
Amy Grace, Executive Director of Red Cross Serving the Heart of Texas, said over 1,500 volunteers from across the country have traveled to Louisiana to help including a few from Bryan/College Station.
“Our volunteers are down there working in over 65 shelters providing support and a safe, clean place to be as well as meals too,” said Grace.
The Red Cross estimates their relief operation will cost at least $30 million, and Grace said the fastest way to help is with a monetary donation.
There are three ways to donate:
- Visit their website at www.redcross.org
- Call 1-800-RED CROSS
- Text “LAFloods” to 90999 (automatic $10 donation charged to your phone bill)
