Reassigned Bryan High Band Director Resigns

Former Bryan High School band director Robert Towell, who was reassigned by central office administrators last month, has submitted his resignation.

A district spokesman says Towell’s last day is the final day of his contract on June 30.

Towell’s forced transfer to a music instructor position at Mitchell Elementary resulted in the school board holding closed door conversations with supporters of the former director.

The band director and the music instructor’s positions are posted as vacancies on the Bryan school district’s website.

That’s among nine fine arts vacancies in Bryan ISD. The district is also hiring a new band director at Davila Middle School and a theater director at Rudder High school.
