Big Eighth Inning Lifts LA over Texas

Arlington – The Los Angeles Angels scored three runs in the eighth inning as they rallied past the Texas Rangers, 9-6 Sunday at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Kole Calhoun and C.J. Cron each recorded three hits and two RBI for the Halos, who put a stop to a four-game winning streak by the Rangers.

Greg Mahle picked up the win in relief, giving up one hit and no runs in one inning of work.

Texas right-hander Tom Wilhelmson fell to 1-2 on the year after giving up two hits and one run in the sixth.

The victory improves Los Angeles to 12-13 on the season, while the Rangers fall to 14-11.

Fister, Altuve lead Astros over Oakland.

Oakland – Jose Altuve hit his seventh home run of the year and Doug Fister pitched 6.2 solid innings as the Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics, 2-1 at O.co Coliseum Sunday.

Altuve put the Astros up early with a lead-off home run in the first against A’s starter Rich Hill.

Outfielder Colby Rasmus provided the eventual game-winne, scoring Jason Castro on a sacrifice fly in the third.

Fister (2-3) allowed one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

Closer Luke Gregerson collected his fifth save on the year, tossing a perfect ninth inning.
