Property Crime Arrests On And Near The Texas A&M Campus

A Bryan man who last year pleaded guilty to stealing two cars and prosecution was barred on four other property crimes is back in jail. Wednesday’s arrest report from Texas A&M police accuses 19 year old Joseph Sweed of taking a backpack from Sbisa dining hall that contained a student’s laptop and wallet. An employee at the dining hall directed the student which direction the suspect left. That led to the victim confronting Sweed near the YMCA building. Sweed was caught by a UPD officer after the victim chased the suspect several times around the Nagle building. According to online court records, Sweed has not made payments on more than $19,000 dollars of restitution that was part of last year’s sentences. Online records also indicate it’s Sweed’s seventh time in jail in just over two years.

A Houston man remains in the Brazos County jail following his arrest on Wednesday for breaking into eight to ten vehicles outside a College Station apartment complex last November. According to the arrest report, 20 year old Demarcus Elam admitted to breaking windows to gain entry into most of the vehicles at Callaway Villas and taking a total of around $100 dollars cash and an undisclosed number of bank cards, I-D cards, and drivers licenses. Elam was identified as a suspect after a victim’s MacPro laptop was traced to an apartment where he was staying. Officers also recovered a .22 caliber rifle that was reported stolen from Beaumont. Numerous cards were also recovered.
