A Bryan man admits to firing a rifle over the head of a woman during an argument in a Bryan trailer park. Nothing was struck by the gunfire in October of 2022. 35 year old Justin Calhoun entered a plea agreement with the Brazos County district attorney’s office on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of the gun by a convicted felon. The plea agreement gives Calhoun an opportunity to get out of prison after serving 180 days. A spokeswoman in the D-A’s office says that depends on the state prison system’s review of Calhoun’s behavior. Calhoun was sentenced to ten years on the weapons charge. Punishment for firing the rifle will be decided after Calhoun’s six month stay in prison.

A Bryan man is returning to prison for drunk driving. Court records show 49 year old Derrick Murphy was sentenced last week (May 9) to 25 years for DWI with four prior convictions, which took place in May of 2021. Before that, Murphy was sentenced in 2010 to eight years for a DWI in Brazos County. The indictment says Murphy was also convicted of DWI in May 2004 in Burleson County, June 2004 in Brazos County, and November 2014 in Burleson County.
