WESTCLIFFE, Colo. (AP) _ Authorities say a husband and wife from Texas died while rock climbing in Colorado, apparently after being caught in a severe storm.
The bodies of 57-year-old Duane Buhrmester and 56-year-old Linda Buhrmester of Plano were found Sunday afternoon on Crestone Needle. The mountain in the Sangre de Cristo range is a popular climbing destination.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Duane Buhrmester was a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. Linda Buhrmester ran an childcare company in her home.
The couple’s son reported them missing Saturday after they failed to return from a camping trip.
The Custer County coroner says he believes a severe storm washed the couple off the mountain, causing them to fall about 500 feet into a mudslide area.
