A pickup truck rear-ended a dump truck on Highway 21 west of Bryan Tuesday shortly before noon.
DPS trooper Jimmy Morgan says the impact caused the pickup to catch on fire.
Sgt. Morgan says passing motorists stopped and used personal extinguishers to put out the fire.
Morgan says the driver of the pickup is hospitalized in serious condition.
The driver of the dump truck, who was not injured, says he was going about 45 miles per hour when he was rear ended.
The crash, at 21 and Pleasant Hill Road by the railroad overpass, closed the highway for about one hour.
