Phillips Named Co-SEC Golfer of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Just days after earning medalist honors for the fourth time in his career, Texas A&M junior Chandler Phillips was announced as the Co-SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Phillips (69-67-67=203, -13) carded his second individual win of the season at the John Burns Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Saturday from Wailua Golf Club in Lihue, Hawai’i. Paired with his 2017 victory at the Burns Intercollegiate, Phillips became the first player to win in consecutive years at the event, which stands out as college golf’s second oldest tournament.

During play in Hawai’i, the Huntsville, Texas, native shot three-under or better in all three rounds to help lead the Aggies to a 17-stroke team victory. On the season, Phillips maintains a 70.50 stroke average, which is on pace to be lowest in program history, a distinction he already holds after posting a 71.15 average last season. The junior’s four individual tournament victories stand one shy of the Texas A&M record set by Anthony Rodriguez (1991-1995).

Keenan Huskey of South Carolina shared the award with Phillips.

Phillips and the rest of the third-ranked Aggies return to the course Feb. 26-27 when they travel to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics from Oakbourne Country Club.
