Perry Touts Helmets After Bike Accident

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Gov. Rick Perry — sidelined after breaking his collarbone in a biking accident — planned to get back to work Thursday to read and sign bills.

In a message sent out Wednesday on the social networking site Twitter, Perry thanked supporters for the “tweets and prayers” and paid tribute to the care he received from Texas First Lady Anita Perry.

“First Nurse was great, and I will be in office reading and signing bills tomorrow,” Perry wrote. “Bike helmets work!!”

Perry broke his collarbone Tuesday night while riding a mountain bike near his home.
