AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Gov. Rick Perry says he doesn’t support a Senate plan to get 80,000 more children into the Children’s Health Insurance Program, indicating he’ll veto the measure if it gets to his desk.
The Senate resurrected the plan Wednesday by adding it to another bill, but House lawmakers rejected the amendment and sent both measures back to the Senate.
The legislative session ends Monday.
The Republican governor’s comments Thursday may doom the plan.
State Rep. Garnet Coleman says it’s unconscionable that Gov. Rick Perry will likely veto legislation to help Texas parents purchase insurance for their children.
The Houston Democrat says the Governor is out of touch with the needs of Texas.
