ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Gov. Rick Perry says Americans are frustrated with federal government spending and poised to send “a really loud message” next week by electing Republicans who favor limited government.
Perry told a group of conservative Texans in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Arlington on Thursday that under President Barack Obama, the federal government “expanded like a fat tick” and became “engorged with our tax dollars.”
The loudest applause came when Perry read aloud the 10th Amendment, which says powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited by the Constitution are reserved for the states or the people.
Perry spoke at a meeting of the Texas Conservative Coalition, which favors limited government. His Democratic rival, ex-Houston Mayor Bill White, is campaigning in South Texas.
