Pentagon Acts on Fort Hood Recommendations

WASHINGTON (AP) _ The Pentagon is expanding how it shares and spreads information on terrorist threats to military at home and around the world.

A Pentagon statement issued Thursday reveals four steps being taken to address gaps in military security in response to the November shootings at Fort Hood. Thirteen people died and 39 other were injured in the massacre.

For now, the Pentagon is expanding an FBI-operated threat reporting system to handle suspicious incident reports. It’s also completing deployment of a database that will allow all Defense Department law enforcement to share criminal investigation and other law enforcement details.

The position of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and America’s Security Affairs will be created to work with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. Defense Department anti-terrorism training also will incorporate lessons from the Fort Hood massacre.

More action is planned in June.
