Pay Raises and Hires for BISD

Monday’s Bryan school board meeting made several changes for the school system.

For one, trustees unanimously approved a pay raise of 3.86 % for teachers.

Stipends for counselors will also increase by $2000.

There are also two new administrative hires.

Tina Tompkins is the new Director of Special Education.

She served a similar role in Mabank ISD for nine years.

Meanwhile, David Diaz is the new principal at Sam Rayburn Middle School.

He previously was a middle school principal and district bi-lingual director in Cleburne for seven years.

Today, the BISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a pay increase of 3.86% for teachers. In addition, counselor stipends will increase by $2000 to a total $3500 above base teacher salaries. Dr. Wallis stated, “Both teachers and counselors were given much needed raises and we appreciate the Board of Trustees approving this recommendation. It indicates our board sees the value in compensating our teachers and counselors for all their hard work.”

In further action, the board approved Mrs. Tina Tompkins as the new BISD Director of Special Education. Mrs. Tompkins comes to BISD with a wealth of knowledge in special education as she has served Mabank ISD in a similar capacity for nine years.

Rayburn MS will have a familiar face in charge with the naming of David Diaz as Principal.  Mr. Diaz was Assistant Principal at Rayburn last year and will take over for Lane Buban who was named Bryan HS Principal last month. Mr. Diaz has served as a district bi-lingual director and was a middle school principal in Cleburne for 7 years.

Joining Mr. Diaz at Rayburn will be former BISD Teacher of the Year from Jane Long MS, Mr. Alford Scott.  Mr. Scott has been a teacher and coach in BISD and has served Bryan well. We look forward to great things at Rayburn MS.

Respectfully,

Thomas A. Wallis, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Bryan ISD
