Here’s what’s happening on Brazos Valley Stages In June!!
A Bryan man returns to jail for the third time since April 2024 and the 19th time since April 2014. That’s after a Brazos County sheriff’s deputy stopped a car for having window tint that was too dark. The deputy’s arrest report says he smelled marijuana. That led to the deputy getting the driver to exit the car and do a search. Two large bags of marijuana were found near a baby who was in a car seat. The driver denied ownership of what turned out to be two and a half pounds of marijuana. The driver did take ownership of $4,285 in cash. The arrest report says $3,785 in various denominations was found under the car’s center console. And $500 dollars in $20 dollar bills was found in the driver’s pants pocket. The cash was seized and 27 year old Deontae Williams was arrested for possessing the marijuana. The arrest report does not say who took custody of the baby. Williams remained in jail as of December 9th in lieu of a $100,000 dollar bond on the new charge and a $150,000 dollar bond related to an upcoming trial on an April 2023 charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
A heads up to motorists in College Station. Starting Tuesday (December 10), Lincoln Avenue will be closed in both directions between Texas and Tarrow. The total closure is due to safety concerns for motorists and construction workers. The total closure that will accelerate rebuilding Lincoln is expected to continue until May 2025, weather permitting.
A Bryan man entered guilty pleas in Brazos County district court last week (December 4) to six crimes. Online jail records show four of the guilty pleas by 33 year old Gilberto Castillo Jr. were for stealing four guns on December 23, 2023. Castillo was sentenced to two years in prison. As part of a plea agreement, Castillo also admitted but prosecution was barred for evading arrest in December 2020 and misdemeanor possession of marijuana in May of 2019. The jail records also shows Castillo has been in jail since January 9, 2024. During that time, he has completed punishment for convictions of vehicle burglary and evading arrest in June 2023 and misdemeanor theft in December 2023. In May of 2018, a suspect in a burglary north of Kurten was stopped by the victim’s neighbor after the neighbor fired two shots into the ground then held the suspect at gunpoint with a rifle. In September 2020, the 20 year old Eric Derrow Jr. of Somerville pleaded guilty to burglary of a building. Court records show probation was modified in November 2021. Then last Friday, Derrow had probation revoked and he was sentenced to two years in a state jail. Online records show Derrow’s punishment also covers guilty pleas to possessing a controlled substance and marijuana in December 2022.
