North Texas Torture Trial Resumes

WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) _ Testimony is resuming in the North Texas trial of a man accused of torturing his former neighbor on a deer-skinning device and chaining her to a bed after kidnapping her.

DNA experts were expected to testify Tuesday at Jeffrey Allan Maxwell’s trial. The 59-year-old faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

Evidence was found last March at his Corsicana home 50 miles south of Dallas. That’s when authorities went to question him about the woman’s disappearance, and she ran outside.

She testified last week that Maxwell abducted her from her home 12 days earlier, shackled her hands and feet — then drove 100 miles to his home.

The trial was on hold Monday because of the Presidents Day holiday.
