No Action Taken By CS & Bryan Councils on BCAD Building Proposal

Representatives of the Brazos Central Appraisal District (BCAD) have asked two more governing agencies to support their proposal to buy land in east Bryan and build new offices to replace leased space.

No decisions were made by the College Station and Bryan city councils, and members of either body did not indicate an opinion.

The Bryan school board supported the idea earlier this month, and future presentations will be made to the Brazos County Commission and the College Station school board.

Four of the five bodies must give approval before BCAD can move forward on purchasing land for $500,000 and spending $2.7 million to build along Copperfield between Pendleton and Stoneparc.

The College Station council asked about renovating an empty building. Chief appraiser Mark Price says the only existing buildings with the required square footage are too old. And the owners of larger buildings won’t subdivide.

Bryan council members who wanted the building on county owned land next to the new tax office were told by BCAD board president Bill Lero that the county would not sell the property.

BCAD board member James Smith told the Bryan city council they’re not considering any other options.

Smith and other BCAD representatives said the option on the land they want to buy in east Bryan runs out in mid-November and the option can not be extended.
