COLUMBIA – The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team (28-4, 8-4) saw its eight-game win streak snapped Sunday afternoon as they fell 6-5 to No. 22 South Carolina (22-10, 6-6) in the series finale from Founders Park.
Hayden Schott continued his torrid stretch for the Aggies as the senior went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. On the weekend, Schott racked up nine RBI. Ali Camarillo (2-for-4) and Ted Burton (2-for-3) also recorded multi-hit performances in the contest.
Starter Justin Lamkin suffered the loss as the sophomore allowed five runs over 3.1 innings of work. The loss marked the first of the year for the sophomore.
For the first time on the weekend, South Carolina struck first with a two-run homer off the bat of Ethan Petry in the opening frame. The deficit marked the Maroon & White’s first of the three-game set.
After the Gamecocks stretched their advantage to 3-0 in the third with a solo homer, the Aggies pushed across their first run of the day in the fourth on an RBI single from Schott.
South Carolina responded in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs to extend its lead to 5-1.
Schott pulled Texas A&M to within two, 5-3, in the sixth as the senior lifted a two-run homer off the light pole in right. The long ball, which traveled 399 feet and left the bat at 110 mph, marked the fourth of the year for the Aggies designated hitter.
After the Gamecocks scored a run on a sac fly in the seventh, the Maroon & White chipped into the deficit, 6-5, with a pair of runs in the eighth. Jace LaViolette led off the frame with a solo homer into the trees in center field that traveled 400 feet. Following singles from Braden Montgomery and Burton, Camarillo made it a one-run game with an RBI single back up the middle.
In the ninth, the Aggies went down in order as South Carolina went on to claim the finale, 6-5.

With the loss, the all-time series between the two sides is tied at 12-12.
Schott logged three RBI in all three games on the weekend.
Camarillo pushed his on-base streak to 18 games.
Jackson Appel extended his on-base streak to 17 games.
LaViolette lifted his 14th home run of the year in the eighth.
