COLLEGE STATION – The No. 22 Texas A&M men’s tennis team defeated Lamar, 6-1, at the Bryan Indoor Tennis Center before making the trek to Waco to defeat No. 45 Tulsa, 5-2, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

Rain plagued the day in College Station forcing the matches to be moved indoors and the decision was made to complete the rare Bryan/Waco double header. Tuesday marked the third straight match to be played away from the Mitchell Tennis Center due to weather.

The Aggies opened the day capturing the doubles point against the Cardinals behind wins from Kevin Lam and Hady Habib on court one and Pranav Kumar and Alex Vedri on court two. In singles action only three matches could be played at a time and the Maroon & White clinched the match from wins by Noah Schachter, Vedri and No. 105 Austin Abbrat. After courts became available, A&M’s Jack Pulliam and Lam picked up the final two points of the day to make the final score 6-1 for the Aggies. With the win, the Aggies improved to 13-0 all-time against the Cardinals.

Immediately following the conclusion of the Lamar match, the Aggies made the 90 mile trek to Waco to take on the Gold Hurricanes. A&M took the tightly contested doubles match to open the match. A&M sophomores Barnaby Smith and Carlos Aguilar earned a 6-3 win on court one, but Habib and Schachter fell 6-4 on court three. With all of the attention shifted to court two, A&M’s Abbrat and Valentin Vacherot elevated their play in the tiebreaker to earn a 7-6(4) win over Joshau Goodger and Tom Thelwall-Jones to clinch the doubles point.

The Maroon & White maintained the pressure on the Sooner-state squad, claiming first sets on five of six singles courts. A&M’s Vacherot coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 win on court three over Tulsa’s Jarod Hing followed by A&M’s Habib earning a 6-3, 6-3 on court two over Tulsa’s Goodger. A&M’s Smith, ranked No. 66 nationally, clinched the win for the Aggies with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court four over Tulsa’s Kody Pearson.

A&M’s Marson tacked on the fifth and final point of the night for the Aggies, topping Tulsa’s Daniel Siddall 7-5, 6-2 on court six. After corralling the Golden Hurricane on Tuesday, A&M holds a 20-3 advantage in the all-time series.

Tuesday’s matches were the final tune up for the Aggies before opening conference play on Friday at Auburn and Sunday at Alabama.
