No. 15 Women Beat Arkansas 82-52 To Advance To SEC Quarterfinals

NASHVILLE- The No. 15 Texas A&M women’s basketball team never trailed in an 82-52 blowout over Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena. With the victory, the Aggies advance to the quarterfinals and will face LSU on Friday at approximately 2 p.m.

In the first matchup between the two teams in a conference tournament since 1988, the Aggies (23-8) came out on fire, outshooting Arkansas 68.8 to 30 percent while building a 23-13 lead in the first quarter.
The Aggies went on to lead by as many as 37 points in the game, and their 30-point margin of victory is A&M’s  second largest win in a conference tournament game under head coach Gary Blair.

Every eligible and healthy A&M player scored in the game, with Danni Williams leading all players with 22 points. Chennedy Carteradded 19 points, and Khaalia Hillsman completed a double-double with 10 points and a season-high13 rebounds. Anriel Howard tied Hillsman for game-high honors in rebounds with 13, giving her the A&M outright record for rebounds in a season with 373.

Devin Cosper led the Razorbacks with 15 points as Arkansas ends its season 13-18.

  • Her eight assists are the most she has had against an SEC opponent, and the second-most in her career

Anriel Howard

  • Had 10+ rebounds for the 27th time this season and 55th time in her career
  • Took sole possession of Texas A&M’s single-season rebound record with 373. She entered the game tied with Peggy Pope (1978-79) with 360 rebounds

Danni Williams

  • Scored 20+ points for the eighth time this season, and the second straight game
  • Scored 10+ points for the 25th time this season and the 56th time in her career

Khaalia Hillsman

  • Had her eighth double double of the season and the 23rd of her career. She is second on A&M’s career double-doubles list, trailing only teammate Anriel Howard
  • Scored 10+ points for the 23rd time this season and 67th time in her career
  • Had 10+ rebounds for the eighth time this season and the 28th time in her career
  • Her four blocks set a Texas A&M record for an SEC Tournament game
  • Took sole possession of third on Texas A&M’s career blocks list with 141. She entered the game tied with Kelly Cerny (1992-96) with 137.
  • Moved into 7th on Texas A&M’s single-season blocks list with 48, passing Danielle Adams (2010-11, 45) and Rachel Mitchell (2015-16, 45)
