News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
The No. 13 Texas A&M volleyball team swept Vanderbilt for its fifth-straight win Friday evening at Reed Arena, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-15).
The Aggies (10-2, 2-0 SEC) put on a show for the 12thMan, as they helped deliver the third-largest attendance in program history standing 4,666 strong at Reed Arena. All-American, Logan Lednicky, led the charge for the Aggies with a match-high 15 kills with an impressive .480 hitting percentage in the three-set win over the Commodores (4-7, 0-2 SEC).
Vanderbilt came out as the aggressor, building an early advantage (4-1). The teams kept it close, however the Aggies captured control through three-straight points to lead at the media timeout, 15-13. Riding their momentum, the Maroon & White ripped off a dominant 6-2 stretch which forced a pair of Commodore timeouts (21-15). Texas A&M didn’t let the visitors get close, as it secured the opening frame, 25-19.
The Maroon & White carried the rhythm into the second, racing out to a five-point advantage as Vanderbilt huddled up, 10-5. The onslaught continued, as the Aggies extended their lead to eight forcing another timeout from the Commodores (18-10). Vanderbilt battled back to within four 23-19), but a pair of kills from Morgan Perkins and Kyndal Stowers sealed the set (25-20) and doubled the lead, 2-0.
It was more of the same in the third thanks to Stowers at the service line, as the redshirt-sophomore logged three-straight aces prompting a Commodore break (6-2). The rhythm held through the midway point behind eight kills, a block and a visitor error to extend the advantage to six (15-9). Nothing stopped the train from rolling, as Texas A&M closed the set on a 10-6 run (25-15) to secure the match, 3-0.
