No. 12 Texas A&M Softball Evens Series with Alabama

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

TUSCALOOSA – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team buried No. 13 Alabama, 17-6, as the Aggies plated seven runs in the final frame to even the series Sunday evening at Rhoads Stadium.

Texas A&M (32-9, 11-6 SEC) had all nine starters reach base, while the 17 runs are the most all-time for the Maroon & White in SEC play and most runs given up by an Alabama team in their program’s history. Texas A&M’s 3-4-5 batters, Jazmine Hill, Julia Cottrill and Trinity Cannon combined to go 6-for-11 and drove in 10 runs.

The Aggies opened with two three-run innings to take the driver’s seat with a 6-0 lead to the bottom of the second frame.

Alabama (30-9, 7-7 SEC) answered with a home run, before Allie Enright punched back mashing a pitch down Broadway off the videoboard for her ninth tater of the season. The Crimson Tide continued to chip away at the deficit with a run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to make it a two-run game, 7-5.

Ol’ Sarge’s charges fended off Alabama with three runs off three hits and one walk in the top of the sixth. Holding on to a 10-6 lead heading into the final frame, things escalated as the Aggies loaded the bases with no outs before a sac fly drove and a pair of singles extended the lead to 14-6. Kennedy Powell blasted her first Aggie home run, a three-run shot to right field, to send the crowd of 3,999 for the gates as Texas A&M led 17-6.

Aggie starter Shaylee Ackerman pitched 3.1 innings, striking out one and yielding two runs, two walks and three hits to earn her seventh win. Emiley Leavitt came in relief for 1.2 innings, followed by Emiley Kennedy shutting the door in 2.0 innings of relief and striking out two.
