No. 10 Texas A&M Softball downed by No. 4 LSU, 6-1

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 10 Texas A&M softball team fell to No. 4 LSU, 6-1, Saturday at the Aggie Softball Complex.

“I thought their pitcher did a great job mixing her speeds and keeping us off balance,” head coach Jo Evans said. “I thought she was the spark they needed. Offensively, we never got going. I thought we chased some pitches, and we got out on our front foot. We have to settle in and look some film and correct our mistakes. We are certainly not conceding this series. I am looking forward to coming out tomorrow and watching our kids compete.”

LSU (25-4, 3-2 SEC) took a quick 3-0 lead, scoring two runs in the second and one in the third. Bailey Landry drove Sahvanna Jaquish on an RBI single to as Elyse Thornhill hit a sacrifice fly to center, plating Kellsi Kloss. In the third, Bianka Bell homered to center.

The Aggies (26-3, 1-1 SEC) scored their lone run in the third on a freshman Kaitlyn Alderink sacrifice fly. Freshman Keeli Milligan led off the inning by advancing to third on a throwing error, before Alderink sent the first pitch of her at bat deep to left, allowing Milligan to score.

The Tigers countered with two runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Shemiah Sanchez and an RBI fielder’s choice from Bell and one run in the fifth on a Thornhill RBI single.

A&M threatened in the fifth as Milligan singled on a bunt and stole her nation-leading 32nd stolen base to move into scoring position. Milligan later advanced to third on an error but was stranded.

Freshman Samantha Show (15-3, 2.81 ERA) suffered the loss, giving up two runs in two innings of work, while Allie Walljasper earned the win, throwing a four-hit complete game.
