News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The No. 15 Texas A&M women’s golf team overcame steady winds of nearly 30 mph to finish third after the first round of the White Sands Invitational at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Saturday.
The Aggies shot a 14-over 298 in the windy conditions and were seven shots back of Purdue for the top spot. Saturday’s round was originally slated to be the second round, but heavy rains on Friday canceled action, shortening the tournament to 36 holes. The final 18 will be played Sunday to crown a team and individual champion.
Lauren Nguyen shot 2-over 73 at the par-71 course. The redshirt junior was tied for fourth and stood five shots back of Natasha Kiel of Purdue for the lead. Freshman Vanessa Borovilos also held onto a spot in the top 10, finishing tied for ninth with a 3-over 74.
Sophomore Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio fired 4-over 75 on the day and Kynadie Adams turned in a 5-over 76. The pair was tied for 13th and 19th, respectively.
Sky Sudberry was tied for 53rd to round out the lineup and Lana Calibuso-Kwee held a share of 43rd playing as an individual.
